Srinagar: J&K CM Omar Abdullah and former CM Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said innocent people should not suffer in the crackdown following the Pahalgam attack in which 25 tourists and a local were killed on April 22.
Abdullah said "in our efforts to catch those responsible, we must make sure innocent people in Jammu & Kashmir are not harmed. We have shared our concerns on this." He said that everyone understands the situation and urged the armed forces to carry out operations carefully to avoid causing trouble to the general public.
Following the Pahalgam attack, over 2,800 people have been detained across Kashmir and 90 have been slapped with the Public Safety Act, which allows detention without trial for up to two years.
Mufti wrote a letter to lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha seeking the release of Kashmiris detained by security forces. She alleged that the actions of security agencies are a "sweeping and indiscriminate crackdown on locals".
