Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a move to meet the surging electricity demand during the summer, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company (MP Transco) has energised an additional 50 MVA power transformer at its 220 kV South Zone substation in Indore.
The installation, carried out at an estimated cost of Rs 3.15 crore, is set to substantially strengthen the reliability and quality of the power supply in the city. Around 50,000 consumers are expected to benefit from this facility through improved and uninterrupted electricity services.
MP Transco superintending engineer in Indore, Jayesh Chopra said that with the addition of the new transformer, the total capacity of the South Zone substation has now risen to 906 MVA.
Notably, the new facility makes it the second substation in the state—alongside the Pithampur substation in the Indore region—where five 132/33 kV power transformers are operational.
The enhanced capacity will directly benefit several key areas of Indore, including Rajendra Nagar, Navlakha, Daly College, Pithampur, Pagnis Paga, Rau and vegetable market area, Chopra added.
With this upgrade, Indore’s overall power transformation capacity has increased to 3336 MVA.
MP Transco manages the robust transmission network through one 400 kV substation in Indore, three 220 kV substations—South Zone Indore, Indore East (Bicholi), and Manglia—and eight 132 kV substations, including Satya Sai, Electronics Complex, Niranjanpur, Raukhedi, Mahalaxmi Nagar GIS, Indore West (Navdapanth) and Rau Extra High Tension substations.
