Mumbai: The Pydhonie police have arrested three persons who allegedly attempted to run over police officers with a motorcycle.

About The Incident

The incident happened during the ‘Operation All Out’ initiative by the Mumbai police at Chimni Point, YM Road. Those arrested are Mustafa Shebaz Patka, 24, a resident of Mumbai Central, Mavia Mustafa Shaikh, 24, of Nagdevi Street, Pydhonie, and Abdul Rehman Gaffar Shaikh, 23, of Dongri.

The incident took place around 11.45 pm on April 26. The three were riding three motorcycles towards Masjid Bunder railway station when police officials, including police sub-inspector Maruti Narayan Telange and inspector Kokare, attempted to stop them at a naka bandi point. However, they ignored police signals and tried to speed past the blockade.

When police personnel moved forward to stop them, the riders allegedly attempted to run them over, police said. Constable Kulal managed to intercept one of the motorcycles. It was found that the accused were not wearing helmets. Subsequently, the accused got out of their vehicle, abused, and assaulted Constable Kulal.

Another person, Gaffar, following them, started recording videos and shouting threats, stating that he would upload the footage on social media to malign the police. In the scuffle, Constable Kulal suffered injuries. All three were overpowered and arrested on the spot. They were produced before the court, which has remanded them to two days of police custody. Notably, the accused, Abdul Rehman Gaffar Shaikh, has a prior criminal record. He has been previously booked by Dongri police in two separate cases of assault, criminal intimidation, and Arms Act provisions.
