Air Pollution Effect on Heart: A new study has revealed that being exposed to pollution for a long time can weaken the heart and increase the risk of heart failure.

Air Pollution Effect on Heart: Pollution has dissolved in our breath . Vehicle smoke, factory smoke, and forest fires have destroyed everything. Because when we inhale this air , it does not stop only in the lungs, but slowly starts damaging our heart as well.
Recently, a new study published in the journal Radiology has revealed that living in pollution for a long time can weaken the heart muscles and increase the risk of serious diseases like heart failure.
Slowly scars are forming in the heart muscles.
Researchers found that small particles present in polluted air, called PM2.5 (Fine Particulate Matter), leave scars called Myocardial Fibrosis in the heart muscles. This is a kind of scar, which weakens the heart over time.
How does PM2.5 cause harm?
PM2.5 particles are extremely microscopic and they easily enter the bloodstream through the lungs. From there, they can reach the heart directly and damage its tissues.
- from vehicle smoke
- from the factories
- from forest fire
- This is the reason why a higher risk of heart disease was seen in people who remained exposed to it for a long time .
Big revelation from the MRI scan
Dr. Kate Haneman of the University of Toronto and her team studied 694 people , of whom 201 were completely healthy and 493 were suffering from a disease that weakens the heart. MRI scans showed that those who suffered more pollution had more scarring in their heart muscles .
Which people are most affected?
- Women
- People with high blood pressure
- Smokers
- Heart damage increased rapidly in these
Pollution history will be necessary in heart test
Scientists say that now doctors should also look at the Air Pollution Exposure History of the patient.
This study proves that the effect of pollution is not limited to the lungs, but it is also silently damaging the heart. Medical imaging tools like MRI can help us identify these early signs. By taking precautions in time, we can keep the heart strong and safe.
