Coronation Street reveals who really blackmailed Lauren - and 'it's not Jake Windass'

A bombshell on on Friday night saw Lauren Bolton realise her mystery blackmailer's true identity.

Youngster Jake Windass appeared to be confirmed as the person targeting her with worrying threats and messages over her involvement in a van crash. After she set a trap, it was Jake that walked right into it and confessed he was the person blackmailing her recently.

But some fans are not convinced this is the full story, and they believe someone else is actually targeting Lauren. Some fans even wondered if Jake was working for or with someone, not convinced a child would be behind what was going on.

Lauren and Betsy Swain had put a trap in motion, leaving some money in a location before watching from afar. Lauren had thought Bobby Crawford was the culprit, so imagine her shock when a child, Jake, went and got the package instead.

She was gobsmacked and soon confronted him, with him claiming he'd gotten the number from his stepmother Maria's phone. With it seeming that it was case closed, Lauren warned him - but some fans think there is more ahead.

Taking to social media some viewers predicted it was actually Mick Michaelis who was targeting Lauren, and either Jake was working with him or they were both blackmailing her separately. A theory read: "I think there's gotta be a twist that Jake might not be the only one who saw both Lauren and Betsy driving off in Tracy's van.

"That there might be a few people who saw both of them besides Jake but I think Mick and Lou may have saw Lauren and Betsy driving off." They added: "I think there's a twist he wasn't alone."

Another theory read: "Does anyone else think there might be more to it and either the culprit is working with someone OR there is still someone else targeting Lauren too? Why do I feel like Mick is somehow involved amid his stuff coming up with Jake's brother Liam?"

Meanwhile other fans were just baffled that Jake, who hasn't been onscreen on months and seemingly has nothing to do with Lauren, would be the one targeting her just for some money.

Thinking it did not make sense and that the lack of build-up was confusing, one fan said: "So Maria's son was blackmailing Lauren... wtf what a pointless storyline."

Another fan commented online: "What on earth was the point of the Lauren's blackmail storyline? Could have been so much better but for it to be Jake a child a pointless character we haven’t seen in months why!!!!!" A third fan posted: "Tell me why this is how they give Jake a storyline?

"They could have at least showed his face some more in the build up. Why would he want anything to do with Lauren?" A final comment read: "Lauren’s blackmailer being a child who is barely onscreen, and not Bobby, which could have made that character interesting. I give up sometimes. What a stupid outcome."
