Two Delta passenger planes have crashed at a major international airport ripping the wing off one jet and injuring at least one person.
The CRJ-900 regional jets, both operated by Delta subsidiary Endeavor Air, clipped each other around 9.56pm Wednesday night while taxiing at low speed at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. A wing of an aircraft getting ready to take off to Roanoke, Virginia, hit the fuselage of an aircraft arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina, according to a statement from Delta.
Images show the aftermath with one plane’s wing torn apart, the nose of the other visibly dented, and passengers as well as crew members stranded as emergency vehicles swarmed the tarmac.

A passenger said his plane was “absolutely smashed,” in the terrifying incident. “We were taxiing to our runway and we got absolutely smashed by another Delta flight... I don’t know if we hit them or they hit us but it was super jarring,” said the man.
“Everyone shot forward in their seats, it was a little chaotic, we were shocked at what happened.”
A flight attendant had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according a statement from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. There were no reports of passengers injured, the airline said.
The rest of the airport’s operations were not expected to be impacted, according to Delta.
“Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as safety of our customers and people comes before all else,” the statement from Delta said. “We apologize to our customers for the experience.”
And an airport spokesperson said: "Passengers were deplaned on the taxiway and transferred via buses back to Terminal C. Passengers on the departing planes will be rebooked to another flight."
Meanwhile an easyJet planecame "within 10ft" of crashing into another airliner as it prepared to jet off with an urgent investigation launched.
Passengers on board the easyJet plane were waiting at the head of the runway to begin its take-off, at Nice Côte d’Azur airport in France, when they heard the deafening sound of the incoming Nouvelair jet applying full power to avoid a collision. The Tunisian Airbus tried to land on the wrong runway at the airport, which has two close parallel runways, officials have said.
The incident took place at 11.30pm on Sunday (September 21), during heavy rain at France's third busiest airport. Philippe Tabarot, the French transport minister, said “a collision involving two aircraft of the Nouvelair and easyJet airlines was narrowly avoided” and that he had "immediately ordered" an investigation by the air accident investigation branch (BEA).
