If you’ve been hunting high and low in pharmacies or Boots for Metanium’s iconic yellow Nappy Rash Ointment, you’ve probably noticed the shelves looking bare. That’s because the product has now been discontinued — a blow for parents who swear by it.
The brand has reportedly struggled to get hold of one of the ointment’s key ingredient, titanium dioxide, meaning supplies have dropped to almost nothing. So unless you're willing to spend hundreds of pounds to get a few tubs on eBay, you'll need to switch to a new cream for at least the meantime.
New mum Hailey Bieber, who gave birth to son Jack last summer, may just have the recommendation you've been looking for. The model recently took to Instagram Stories to share her pregnancy and postpartum must-haves, highlighting the baby products she “couldn’t live without.” One standout was Weleda Baby Calendula Nappy Cream, now £5.30— her trusted choice for keeping little ones rash-free.
Packed with organic calendula, chamomile and sweet almond oil, it calms delicate skin while skipping any harsh additives. With zinc oxide and lanolin to form a breathable shield against moisture and irritation, it’s gentle enough for newborns and perfect for sensitive skin.

Though the cream doesn't have the same key ingredients as Metanium, so it isn't fully comparable, looking at the reviews, it seems a fair few yellow ointment users have happily made the swap to this Weleda buy.
One writes: "Best nappy cream!!! As soon as I switch to anything else, a little rash will come up. This is the best and won’t be trying anything else! The consistency is lovely, spreads on easily with a very gentle fragrance."
A second pens: "Best nappy rash cream I’ve ever used, beats that yellow stuff that stains everything."
"I used to use a different brand of nappy cream.. however after trying the weleda i have found my new go to cream. Great for my toddlers skin and has prevented any further nappy rashes. Amazing product," says another.
A fourth adds: "It has always cleared up a nappy rash straight away. However I do use it for every nappy change as it keeps my baby nice and soft and clear. I actually have started using it in all his creases (behind legs and arms) and has cleared up his eczema despite trying lots of eczema products that have never seemed to do the job. 10/10 product."
A fifth gives a slightly more balanced review, noting: "The cream itself smells amazing and is easy to apply, but unfortunately, when it comes to a nappy rash, it doesn’t seem quite as effective as other brands I’ve tried."
