Aamir Khan’s latest film Sitaare Zameen Par, which recently premiered on YouTube via pay-per-view, has run into a technical snag. Several users reported that Apple device users were being charged ₹179 to rent the film—an unexpected price point that triggered confusion and frustration among viewers.
Aamir Khan Productions Responds SwiftlyThough Aamir Khan is not personally active on social media, his production house, Aamir Khan Productions, responded quickly. On its official handle, the team acknowledged the issue and assured fans that they are working on a fix:
Cinema Should Be Affordable: Aamir’s Vision“We just became aware that the cost to rent our film Sitaare Zameen Par is reflecting as ₹179 on Apple devices.
We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Prior to the glitch, Aamir had already voiced concerns about the rising cost of movie-watching. Drawing a parallel between multiplexes and five-star hotels, Aamir pointed out that premium pricing has made cinema inaccessible to the average viewer:
“Multiplexes have become very elite. Unless you have an income of that level, you can’t afford to go there.”
He said his aim with Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube release was to make films more accessible and affordable.
Star Cast and CrewSitare Zameen Par features Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles alongside 10 fresh young talents. The film’s music is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The screenplay is penned by Divya Nidhi Sharma, and the film is co-produced by Aparna Purohit and Ravi Bhagchandka under the Aamir Khan Productions banner.
As the glitch gets resolved, viewers can expect fairer pricing and a smoother viewing experience—exactly what Aamir Khan envisioned when bringing his film to the digital masses.
