Gogglebox favourite Ellie and Izzi Warner were given the shock of a lifetime minutes into the latest episode of the Channel 4 commentary show. On Friday (October 17), the late-night show returned to the airwaves, where the cast tuned in for some of the biggest shows grabbing the nation this week. But it's fair to say one show had the whole cast rooting through their cupboards.
As the Leeds gals snuggled up on the sofa, they tuned in for the latest episode of Antiques Roadshow in which one woman brought along her gold coin collection. British and Continental furniture expert Cristian Beadman revealed that the BBC show doesn't usually examine coins and stamps, but they made an exception on this occasion.
The bountiful collection was actually crafted from Gold Bullion, investment-grade gold in its physical form, typically bars or coins, with a high degree of purity. Upon close inspection, it was revealed that she owned 21 Gold Sovereigns and two half Sovereigns, each valued at a staggering £10,000 to £15,000.
At this point, her sister remembered that she had once sold a vintage 20-penny coin approximately 15 years ago. Ellie asked: " Izzi, guess how much that dateless 20p would have been worth now if you'd have hung on to it."
She admitted: "I don't know, £500?" before Ellie continued: "How much did you get for it at the time? And how long ago was that?" to which Izzi revealed that she got around £70 when she sold it 15 years ago.
Ellie then broke the news to her sister that she had lost out on £10,000. She smirked: "Now, they're going for £10k!" Taken aback, Izzi fumed: "F**k off! Get lost! That was my Antiques Roadshow moment!"
It comes after five fresh families joined the cast of Gogglebox this month. The beloved Channel 4 programme has undergone a significant shake-up following the departure of one duo.
