Kate Garraway was reportedly 'triggered' during her experience on Celebrity Traitors. The Good Morning Britain presenter has spoken about how she initially refused to take part in a coffin stunt as it reminded her of her late husband's death; Garraway, 58, tragically lost her husband, Derek Draper, in January 2024 at the age of 56. The former political adviser had been living with extreme complications from COVID-19 after he first contracted the disease in 2020. During the second episode of Celebrity Traitors, an unaired scene involving coffin carrying was featured, and according to The Sun, Kate was counseled by Alan Carr and Celia Imrie.
She said to the publication: "You don't know what's coming next and so you find yourself walking on by the coffins. And I did a double-take, I gasped, and I was walking with Alan and Celia was in front of me.
"And I said, 'God, I don't know whether I should carry this coffin'.
"And I had a chat with the production team who checked on me all the time. You know, there was a psychologist there. But you're suddenly in the moment and I said, 'I'm not sure. I think it's a bit strange and a bit weird'."
Speaking ahead of the series about why she signed up to the BBC show, she told MailOnline: "I've been through so many challenges over the last five years, I've faced a lot of actual life and death moments, and I've done a lot of crying over all that's happened to our family. It's all been so serious."
She added: "So, this feels like a chance to have fun and make a little mischief playing in what I genuinely believe is the best game on TV."
The lineup also includes Traitors superfan Stephen Fry, Olympian Tom Daley, television host Jonathan Ross, and BBC star Alan Carr. Comedian Joe Wilkinson is also in the Scottish castle alongside singer Paloma Faith and former England rugby player Joe Marler. Line of Duty star Mark Bonnar is also made an appearance, as well as presenter Clare Balding and singer Cat Burns.
This time, there's more than just honour on the line: a £100,000 prize fund is up for grabs. The winning Traitors-or Faithfuls, depending on how the game unfolds-will split the cash, which will be donated to charities of their choice, adding a meaningful twist to the cloak-and-dagger competition.
The Celebrity Traitors concludes next week on BBC One and iPlayer.
