One of the 'best period dramas of all time' is free to stream and has 93% Rotten Tomatoes

A British BBC period drama has been named as one of the "best" - and it is free to stream. The series first aired in 2013, and a seventh instalment is rumoured to be on the way. It is set in 20th-century Britain, largely in Birmingham and loosely based on a real urban youth gang. If you haven't guessed already...Peaky Blinders has been ranked among the "10 Best British TV Period Dramas" by the website List.

The series' synopsis reads: "Britain is a mixture of despair and hedonism in 1919 in the aftermath of the Great War. Returning soldiers, newly minted revolutions and criminal gangs are fighting for survival in a nation rocked by economic upheaval. One of the most powerful gangs of the time is the Peaky Blinders, run by returning war hero Thomas Shelby and his family. But Thomas has bigger ambitions than just running the streets. When a crate of guns goes missing, he recognises an opportunity to advance in the world because crime may pay, but legitimate business pays better. Trying to rid Britain of its crime is Inspector Chester Campbell, who arrives from Belfast to try to achieve that goal."

Peaky Blinders stars Cillian Murphy in the lead role, alongside Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole and Joe Cole. Many actors have starred in cameos throughout the length of the series' duration, including Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sam Claflin.

Peaky Blinders has received widespread critical acclaim, and its 93% rating from the critics of Rotten Tomatoes reflects that. Their consensus on the most recent series states: "Peaky Blinders' sixth series gracefully addresses the untimely passing of star Helen McCrory while setting the stage for a fitting climax to this epic saga of likeable scalawags."

David Renshaw of The Guardian summarised the series as a "riveting, fast-paced tale of post-first world war Birmingham gangsters".

He praised Murphy's role as the "ever-so-cool Tommy Shelby" and the rest of the cast for their "powerful performances"
