Pasta is a staple of all our diets these days. It's quick, easy, but most importantly tasty. It's one of those dishes you can slap on after a long day at work without thinking but there is one easy extra step that can make that comfort meal all the more delicious.
The trick is baking your pasta - it is a couple of extra steps, but it's well worth it to level up a dish tenfold for a tiny bit of effort.
There is a new secret recipe that has emerged, which has whipped up a foodie craze online, praised for how easy it is to make and how tasty it is. Allow us to introduce: Alfredo baked spaghetti.
This delicious pasta bake is ready in about 40 minutes. You can stick the pasta on the boil while making the creamy sauce, starting with a quick roux of butter, flour and milk.
Then you turn in some tasty parmesan and mozzarella cheese as well as heavy cream in a dairy bonanza coating the spaghetti and, soon, your tastebuds.
Once it's finished, bang the sauce into the pasta pot and toss. From there, stick it into a baking dish and top it with the cheese left over, and bake it to get that beautiful crispy top. If you like and really want to seal the deal with the crispy top, you can grill the dish for about three or four minutes.
It makes a perfect early autumn meal and would please any guests. A perfect harmony of crispy and creamy, you'll have to make it again and again.
Here's how you make The Kitchn's recipe:
Make the cheese sauce: make a roux, slowly adding flour, butter and milk. Once you have made this, whisk in more whole milk, heavy cream, parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Add some garlic powder and salt to taste. Whisk until a smooth sauce forms.
Boil the spaghetti: Boil around 400g of spaghetti until it's slightly underdone - it will fully cook when you bake it.
Mix in the sauce and bake: Mix the sauce in with the pasta after straining it and transfer it into a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and bake for 20 minutes. Grill for three or four minutes to get the cheese on top golden brown.
The Kitchn shared a few tips on the recipe. If you're not a spaghetti fan you can always swap it out for another type of pasta. gemeli, rigatoni or fettuccine are recommended.
