Reserving a sleeper train can be an incredibly enjoyable experience. Whether it's the world's most expensive sleeper train, or a route which takes you from London to Cornwall, travellers choose this option as it offers something distinctive and memorable.
Recently, one woman shared how she embarked on a 13-hour sleeper train during her remarkable adventures, though many were stunned by the cost.
Mia Lacey, who is presently exploring South East Asia, purchased second-class tickets for the service that transported her from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
She revealed the journey left her delightfully surprised as it was spotless, and rather enjoyable to "observe the landscape passing by".
In a TikTok clip that attracted 17,100 likes, she explained: "Here's everything you need to know about the sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai."
She added: "We booked this with the State Railway of Thailand on 12 Go Asia. We paid for second-class tickets which meant we had aircon and this cost a total of 1,038 baht which calculates to about £24 and that was for one ticket."
Describing the arrangement, Mia climbed aboard the train to discover the beds were positioned with ample space.
"It was actually more comfy than the hostel we stayed in the previous night," she confessed. "You also had a curtain so it's completely private and you could just chill and do your own thing."
She said they decided to opt for bottom bunks to be next to each other and it was so nice to see the world passing by.
Mia explained: "The train departed at 6:40pm but we did board slightly earlier than that and they do ask you to be at the station to collect your tickets two hours before just because it can get quite busy.
"We only managed to get there an hour before but that was find and it was around 13 hours so it arrived in Chiang Mai the next morning around 7:00am.
"You do get a free bottle of water and they come around and offer orange juice and food that you have to pay extra for and we literally woke up in the mountains, they woke up at around 6:30am to make the beds again and for anyone to have breakfast.
"I would definitely recommend this to anyone travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai." Although Mia couldn't recommend the train enough, some people were gobsmacked by the price she paid for it.
In the comments section, where over 200 people shared their opinions, one person said: "2 hour flights only about £50?" Another added: "You can book on the day if you to the train station I paid 300 baht a ticket it's a lot cheaper."
But the majority of people on TikTok were quite amazed by the experience and claimed it's on their bucket list. Someone said: "That is so amazing. I would love to do this one day." Another chimed in: "This looks so fun and such an experience."
