Chennai: A man and his daughter died in a road accident near Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Jayaprakash, a 45-year-old bus driver employed at the Uthiramerur govt depot, and 16-year-old Thulasi, who recently completed her Class X at Uthiramerur Govt Girls Higher Secondary School.
The father and daughter were riding a two-wheeler on Uthiramerur-Manampathi highway around 8pm when a goods lorry, coming from the opposite direction, collided with their vehicle. Both Jayaprakash and Thulasi got thrown off their bike in the impact of the collision. Several passers-by came to their aid and rushed them to Uthiramerur govt hospital, where the duo was declared dead on arrival. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
According to the police, the father and daughter were returning home after visiting Jayaprakash's friend and doing some shopping when the accident occurred. Investigations revealed that the truck driver's bid to overtake a car led to the collision. A case has been filed and further investigation in underway.
