NEW DELHI: A man who allegedly killed his ex-wife in Patparganj on Wednesday died by suicide in Noida's Sector 90 the next day. Earlier, the woman filed a complaint against him, accusing him of sexually harassing her four-year-old daughter.
Police seized the man's laptop, which showed searches related to suicide. He was an engineer and lived in Malviya Nagar.
At 6 pm on Wednesday, police received a call regarding a suspected murder that took place on the ground floor of a residence in Patparganj. A 27-year-old woman was found lying between two beds in a severely burned condition. She had four stab wounds-one in the abdomen and three in the chest. An empty kerosene bottle was lying nearby. She was taken to a hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead.
During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage from nearby houses. "A man was seen entering and exiting the woman's residence around the estimated time of the crime. The woman's current husband identifies the man as her former husband," the officer said.
Police said the ex-husband was previously accused in a molestation case involving a minor girl in Pandav Nagar. A complaint was registered in that matter. The woman's husband also informed the investigators that she lived in fear and shared concerns about receiving repeated threats from her ex-husband.
Deputy commissioner of police (East) Abhishek Dhania said he reportedly blamed her for the molestation case filed against him and claimed that it ruined his reputation and hindered his ability to find employment. According to the husband, the ex-husband threatened to harm her if she did not withdraw the case.
Based on the evidence and witness statements, a case of murder was registered, and a special team was formed under the supervision of additional DCP Vinit Kumar. During the probe, it was discovered that the suspect's last known phone location was in Noida. When the team reached the location, they found his body near a 23-storey building.
