Jaipur: A sloth bear entered Ranthambhore Fort Saturday, sending people there fleeing in panic. Videos made of the incident showed crowds scrambling for safety as the bear wandered near Andheri Pol before retreating to the forest within 10 minutes.
The incident comes just days after the fort reopened following a nine-day closure after a seven-year-old boy was killed by a cub from tigress T-84 Arrowhead's litter. While no injuries were reported in the bear encounter, the breach has reignited debates over visitor safety in the forest reserve.
A forest staff member said, "Entry to the fort resumed Friday with tightened restrictions, but on Saturday a bear entered the fort. The wall is punctured at two or three places from where wild animals enter. The fort is in the core area of Ranthambhore National Park, and wild animals can move anywhere." TNN
