Varanasi: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, completed the rituals of Jalabhishek of Kashi Vishwanath Shivling installed at Babulnath Temple in Mumbai with holy water from Rameshwaram on Thursday.
Talking to TOI after completion of the rituals, the CEO said that during his last visit to Babulnath Temple in Nov last year, he was made aware that a Shivling in the form of Lord Kashi Vishwanath was installed there decades ago. When he tried to find out whether the deity's Jalabhishek was performed with Rameshwaram water, as consecration of Kashi Vishwanath is not considered complete without it, the temple authorities said that no such ritual was performed. According to mythological believe, the tradition of performing Jalabhishek of the deity with holy Rameshwaram water started after Lord Ram established the Shivling of Lord Kashi Vishwanath in Rameshwaram.
The CEO said he reached Mumbai on Wednesday after his Rameshwaram visit. He further said that Rameshwaram water for the Abhishek of Lord Kashi Vishwanath at Babulnath Temple was offered by a representative of Zamindar (landlord) family of Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga, CRM Arunachalam. The latter went to Rameshwaram from Chennai to fetch water for the auspicious purpose.
