Probe ordered after murder accused tortured at police station in UP, SO sent to lines

Varanasi: After video evidence surfaced showing Mungrabadshahpur police station in-charge Vinod Kumar Mishra brutally assaulting a murder suspect during interrogation, Jaunpur SP Kaustubh ordered a departmental probe against him on Thursday.

Mishra was subsequently was attached to police lines to facilitate an impartial investigation. The SP said, "A viral video showed SO Mungrabadshahpur's misconduct. During an initial investigation, it was found that Anjali Kinnar murder case co-accused Rohit Yadav was brought for interrogation, when the station in-charge indulged in misconduct. Taking serious note of it, he was immediately removed from the charge of the police station to ensure that he doesn't influence departmental proceedings."

The departmental investigation against him is underway under the supervision of the additional superintendent of police (rural). Further actions against the station in-charge will be based on the findings of this investigation.

Earlier, a 40-second video showed Mishra's brutally beating the accused with a belt, stick and plastic chair after tying him to a pole.
