Indian radiologists condemn Pahalgam attack, extend support to victims' families

NEW DELHI: The Indian Radiological & Imaging Association (IRIA) has expressed its profound sorrow over the tragic loss of lives resulting from the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. The association, with more than 27,000 members across India, condemned the heinous act of violence that has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of people nationwide. The attack, which targeted innocent civilians, has sparked outrage and grief across the country.

In a statement released on April 24, 2025, Dr Gurdeep Singh, President of IRIA, said, "It is with deep regret that we extend our condolences to the victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and the entire nation during this difficult time. This senseless act of violence is a reminder of the need for stronger measures against terrorism."

IRIA's strong condemnation of the attack
The IRIA has strongly condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly and despicable act that can never be justified. Dr Pankaj Sharma, Secretary General of IRIA, echoed these sentiments, adding, "We unequivocally condemn this attack and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured, and we remain committed to supporting all those affected."

The association commended the courage and quick actions of the security forces and emergency responders, who risked their lives to protect others in the face of danger. "We salute their bravery and dedication in the line of duty," said Dr Singh.

Appeal for justice and national unity
As a part of its resolution, the IRIA also called on the Government of India to take decisive action against the perpetrators and their supporters. The association urged all citizens to unite in support of the victims' families and uphold the values of peace, compassion, and unity that define the nation.

"Our message to the people is clear: we must not let this tragedy divide us. We must come together in this time of grief and support each other," said Dr Sharma. The IRIA concluded with a call for peace, urging all to honour the memory of those lost in this brutal attack.
