When Anurag Kashyap hit back at 'Bollywood Mafia' allegations

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his outspoken nature and unfiltered views, has often found himself at the center of controversies, whether it's about his stance on the Bollywood power dynamics or his recent apology to the Brahmin community.

Clapping back at ‘puppet’ accusation: “Queen Bani Jab Kangana Ke Paas Kaam Nahi Tha”
Back in 2020, amid a social media storm triggered by Kangana Ranaut’s explosive interview about nepotism and the alleged ‘Bollywood mafia,’ Anurag Kashyap found himself being labeled as one such puppet. A Twitter user called him out as “the puppet of the Bollywood Gang Mafia,” accusing him of pandering to the industry for survival. Kashyap fired back, stating that none of his films were ever backed by major studios like Dharma, Excel, or YRF, and that he had to start his own company to survive. In a bold statement, he said, “Queen banayi thi jab Kangana ke paas koi kaam nahi tha.” He also revealed he helped bring financiers on board when Tanu Weds Manu was stuck, asserting his behind-the-scenes support in her career.

Kangana’s team responds, ‘Queen was your only hit’
In response to Kashyap’s detailed tweet, Team Kangana Ranaut acknowledged the filmmaker’s claims but added a sharp retort. “Yes, it is true. Another truth is Queen remains the only hit film to come out of your entire career,” they tweeted, while also throwing shade at Phantom Films, the production company Kashyap co-founded.

Anurag’s recent apology amid Brahmin row: “I lost control in anger”
Fast forward to the present, Kashyap recently issued a heartfelt apology to the Brahmin community after facing backlash over a controversial comment related to the Phule debate. In a Hindi note shared on Twitter, he admitted he let anger get the better of him and used inappropriate language. “Mein apne gusse par kaam karunga,” he promised, seeking forgiveness from his family, colleagues, and community, while vowing to be more responsible with his words in the future.
